ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University men's soccer team tied their second game in a row on Thursday after a midday contest against GLIAC opponent Northern Michigan.
The 0-0 draw moves both team's records to 1-0-2 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northern Michigan showed heavy pressure in the opening minutes of Thursday's match holding possession for a majority of the first half. The Flyers were able to take the ball back towards the end of the half, but were unable to find the back of the net which sent both sides into the locker room tied, 0-0.
Lewis flipped the script from the first half as the red and white controlled the ball and continued to pressure the Northern Michigan defense. In the final 20 minutes Lewis began to take more shots from long range and nearly took the lead in the 88th minute as a shot from
Faustin Wilson (Chicago, Ill./Von Steuben) went just above the right side of the net.
Lewis ended the afternoon with a 12-7 edge in shots and a 5-2 lead in shots on goal. Both men in goal held their respective team's head above water with Asaf Kristal finishing with five saves and Lewis keeper
Yoan Zagorov (Sofia, Bulgaria) finished the match with two.
GAME NOTES
- Zagorov recorded his first collegiate saves in the draw.
- Senior Stefan Ziermann (Vienna, Austria/University of Economics) made his first appearance this season off the bench.
- Mario Ramirez (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle Institute) made his first career start for the Flyers.
