Dear Lewis Family,
After 19 incredible years as the head men's basketball coach at Lewis University and a 40 year journey in coaching, I am announcing my decision to retire.
Time to reflect during this offseason has led me to the conclusion that I am no longer the best person to lead this program in the current college athletic landscape. If there is one thing I have learned over my coaching career, it is that you have to be all in. Going through the demands of the position half-hearted is not fair to the university or to the athletes in our program. So, I owe it to them to move on.
I am grateful and blessed to have worked with many talented athletes over the years at Lewis, Elmhurst, Michigan, Illinois Wesleyan and Minnesota State-Mankato. I know I have learned much more from these young men than they have learned from me.
To my current and former assistant coaches, I cannot thank you enough for all of your loyalty and hard work over the years. Our programs successes were due in large part do your dedication and commitment.
To the head coaches and mentors who gave me my start and countless opportunities along the way, I will be forever grateful.
I would like to also express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the staff members, colleagues and administrators I have had the privilege of working with and for over the years. Your support made my job easier and much more enjoyable.
Lastly, coaching has been the joy of my life and I leave it hoping I made a small impact along the way. "Coach" may no longer be my job title, but it will always be who I am.
Go Flyers!
