Lewis Men's Soccer Finishes Sunday with Draw Against Rangers

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University men's soccer team tied the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers on Sunday afternoon for their first draw of the season.

After the contest Lewis' record moves to one win, zero losses and one tie with UW-Parkside remain without a win, one loss and a now a tie to their name.

Lewis Senior Mikey Revell (Largo, Maryland/Bishop McNamara) recovered his own blocked shot in the first half and followed it up with a well placed shot to the upper right corner. Out of halftime the Rangers put the Flyers on the defensive and were able to gain a goal tying the contest at one a piece. Shortly after a cross from Lance Somerfield (Orland Park, Ill./Eastern Illinois) would be kept in the air long enough for Lucas Lloyd (Ontario, Canada/Bishop Tonnos) to head a ball in for goal number two. Finally the Rangers beat the Lewis defense one last time to tie the game at two with just over 15 minutes remaining.

HOW IT HAPPENED

With good control of the ball the Flyers had many chances to score during the opening half of Sunday's game. Senior Nicholas Rogalski (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) would trap a cross from Lance Somerfield (Orland Park, Ill./Eastern Illinois) at the top of the box, sliding a pass over to senior wing Revell, Revell would hammer a shot into the body of a Rangers defender. Gaining his own rebound he fired again giving Lewis the first goal of the game.

The Rangers came out of halftime and put together more offensive sets, but they would finally tie the game on a long through pass which broke the defense and caught Lewis' back line off guard, UW-Parkside tied the game at one. Lewis took back the lead only a few minutes later with another cross from junior Somerfield which was given more air on a clear attempt from a Ranger defender allowing for the freshman Lloyd to slam full steam ahead for a header to give Lewis a 2-1 lead. The Rangers would then tie the game again at the 79:08 mark with a shot from the right side of the box. Despite a strong offensive push the Flyers were unable to take back the lead, and the contest ended in a 2-2 draw.
