Kansas City, Mo. - The Lewis University women's basketball team earned its ninth consecutive victory Thursday (Jan. 22), defeating Rockhurst 93-44 at Mason Halpin Field House. Lewis moves to 11-6 overall, 7-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Mallory Ramage (Mattoon, Ill./Loyola Chicago) paced the Flyers with 22 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the floor. Tene Smith added 15 points, while
Mercy Lasu (Winnipeg, Canada/D'Youville) had 13 points and eight rebounds and
Ally Cesarini (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) scored 10 points.
Yahaira Bueno (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) dished out 11 assists, while
Jasmine Jones (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) had eight rebounds.
Macie Conway scored 14 points for the Hawks (6-10, 2-6).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Rockhurst took an early 7-4 lead before the Flyers reeled off 18 straight points and led 22-9 after the first quarter. Ramage led the charge with eight points during the stretch.
Smith opened the second quarter with a three-pointer to make it 25-9 before the teams traded baskets for the next five minutes. That is when Lewis scored eight straight points to pull ahead 37-17.
The Flyers continued to roll and a Cesarini jumper to end the half gave them a 47-23 advantage.
Lewis built its lead to 58-25 in the third quarter behind nine points from Ramage during the 11-2 spurt. The lead was 71-31 after three quarters.
The Flyers continued to pour in buckets in the fourth quarter building their lead to as many as 52 points at 89-37.
GAME NOTES
- Bueno's 11 assists set a new career high, topping the nine she had at McKendree on January 2.
- Ramage's 22 points were one off her season-high of 23 points on November 23 against Northwood and her third game of 20-plus points this season.
- Smith set several season highs in the game, including points (15), minutes (21), field goals made (5) and three-point field goals made (5).
- Lasu had back-to-back double digit scoring games for the first time in her Lewis career.
- It was the second time the Flyers topped 90 points in a game, scoring 94 against Concordia University December 15.
- The Flyers were red-hot shooting, going 34-of-57 (59.6%) from the floor and 12-of-19 (63.2%) from beyond the arc.
UP NEXT
Lewis will look to continue the win streak when it travels to Bolivar, Missouri for a 1 p.m. game Saturday against Southwest Baptist.
