HOW IT HAPPENED
Ahead 10-8 midway through the first set, the Flyers gained some breathing room as a Jaspers service error served as the start of a 8-4 run that propelled Lewis ahead, 18-12. Despite a late Manhattan rally that cut the hosts lead to just two, 23-21, the Flyers used a Todorov kill followed by Jaspers attack error to leave the first set with a 25-21 win and take a 1-0 match lead.
Down 23-21 with their backs against the wall in the second set, the Flyers found a way to tie the match as they used a Hoying kill to spurn a short 3-1 spurt that tied the match, 24-24. The two sides were caught in a deadlock with Lewis staving off a Manhattan match point and the Jaspers returning the favor moments late to keep the frame tied.
Tied at 27-27, Lewis broke away as consecutive Manhattan attack errors let Lewis win the marathon second stanza, 29-27 and take a 2-0 match lead.
The Flyers sealed the win in set three as they limited Manhattan to a -.105 hitting percentage to wjn, 25-13 and seal the sweep.
