ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team used 26 third quarter points to beat Missouri S&T 74-67 Saturday (Jan. 31) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest. The Flyers move to 13-7 overall, 9-3 in the GLVC.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Kree Nunnally (Crystal Lake, Ill./Example Academy) had 18 points and seven rebounds to lead Lewis.
Ally Cesarini (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) added 17 points and seven rebounds,
Mallory Ramage (Mattoon, Ill./Loyola Chicago) had 14 points and
Yahaira Bueno (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) had 11 points and nine assists.
Norah Gum had 13 points and five rebounds for the Miners.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Miners started off with a 4-0 lead before Lewis came back and took a 7-6 lead on a three-pointer by Cesarini. The teams traded baskets until a jumper from Ramage made it 16-12. Lewis led 18-16 after the first quarter.
Lewis had multiple four-point leads in the second quarter before the two teams finished the half in a 35-35 tie.
The Flyers scored the first 10 points of the third quarter behind six points from Nunnally to take a 45-35 lead. A three-pointer by Samantha Campanelli extended the lead to 53-40 midway through the third quarter.
Lewis built the lead to 17 points at 59-42 before the Miners cut the lead to 13 at 61-48 after three quarters.
The Miners scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to make it 61-52. Missouri S&T cur it to eight points at 65-57 with 5:06 remaining.
Missouri S&T got to within five points at 72-67 with seven seconds left before a pair of Lewis free throws ended the game.
GAME NOTES
- The Flyers were a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line.
- Lewis forced 20 Miner turnovers.
- Nunnally's 18 points were a career-high.
