Women's Basketball Tames Lincoln

Jefferson City, MO - The Lewis University Women's Basketball team emergeed victorious on the road after defeating Lincoln University 62-56 this Thursday at Jason Gym. 
 
IMPACT PLAYERS
Mallory Ramage (Mattoon, Ill./Loyola Chicago) led the Flyers in scoring, after getting a team high 23 points on 20 shots attempted. Her nonstop efforts also saw her collaborate across both ends of the floor, grabbing five defensive and three offensive rebounds for a total of eight. Yahaira Bueno (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) and Kree Nunally scored 14 and 10 points respectively, which along with Mallory's 23, made up for 47 of Lewis' 62 points. Yahaira and Kree also tied for the team high 10 rebounds for the night. Ally Cesarini's (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) impactful defensive performance saw her grab eight rebounds and five steals.
 
For Lincoln University, Bella Borgos led in team scoring with 17 points on 50% shooting.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis started the first quarter strong offensively, scoring 17 points on 43.75% shooting, winning the quarter against the hosts who only scored a total of eight points on 27.27% shooting.
 
Although the Flyers started off strong, they didn't manage to win any of the remaining quarters, as Lincoln led the second and third quarter with 13 and 17 points respectively.
 
In the fourth, Lincoln continued to roll as they limited Lewis to just two makes from the floor to flip the script and take a 51-49 lead. After exchanging the next few buckets, the Flyers took the lead for good as a 9-3 run that gave them a 60-54 advantage with under two minutes left. Lewis tacked on a couple of free-throw makes late to complete the 62-56 win.
 
Lincoln's more efficient shooting in the second half wasn't enough, as the Flyers secured the victory with a final score of 62-56 to improve their season record to 14-8.
 
GAME NOTES
  • The Flyers knew how to use the paint to their advantage, as 30 of their points came from that area, outscoring the hosts by four points in the paint.
  • Lewis is now 4-1 all-time against Lincoln
