ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Former Lewis men's volleyball player and assistant coach Jacob Kerschner returns to Neil Carey Arena on March 7 as an assistant coach with Penn State when the Flyers face the Nittany Lions. Opening serve is set for 6 p.m.
A member of the Flyers from 2015 through 2020, Kerschner played in 48 matches and appeared in 106 sets during his five seasons with the Red and White. He is a five-time recipient of the Brother David Delahanty Award, given to Lewis student-athletes for academic excellence, and a five-time selection to the Academic All-MIVA team. Kerschner received his bachelor's degree in mathematics with a minor in athletic coaching from Lewis in 2020.
After his playing days ended, Kerschner joined the Flyers' sidelines as a graduate assistant before becoming an assistant coach. While on staff, Kerschner helped lead the team to over 70 wins, a MIVA Championship, and an NCAA Final Four Appearance in 2021. A 2023 AVCA 30-Under-30 selection, Kerschner coached more than 10 All-Americans, including first-team All-Americans Tyler Mitchem and Ryan Coenen. This past summer, Kerschner left Romeoville to head home to the Quaker State to serve as an assistant coach under new Penn State head coach Colin McMillan, who replaced AVCA Hall of Fame inductee Mark Pavlik.
Overall, the Flyers have faced the Nittany Lions 41 times in program history, with 15 of those meetings in Romeoville. The last time Lewis and Penn State met in the Land of Lincoln, the Flyers swept the Nittany Lions, with
Daniel Haber (Remsenburg, NY/Westhampton Beach) tallying 11 kills to pace the Lewis offense.
Lewis has faced Penn State in regular-season or postseason play every season except 2022 and 2023, with the March 7 match marking the fourth consecutive meeting between the two. Over their last 10 meetings, the Flyers lead 6-4, including two wins over the Nittany Lions in the NCAA Tournament.
Broadcast and ticket information will be announced later.
