Dallas, Texas - The Lewis University women's softball team ended their opening weekend at the 2026 D2 Lone Star College Classic with a win and a loss to make their record 1-3 for the tournament.

The Flyers ended the final day of their tournament with a 1-1 record. Picking up the Flyers first win of the 2026 season against Metropolitan State University of Denver and falling to the University of Texas at Dallas for their second doubleheader in back-to-back days to start the season.

Senior
Nicole Magdziasz (Tinley Park, Ill./Providence Catholic High School) got the Flyers started in the top of the first inning with a single and stolen base later set up senior
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton High School) with a bunt single that drove in Magdziasz to put Lewis up 1-0 to start the game.

The Roadrunners fought back to get in the scoring column in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI groundout from Janessa Esquibel to tie it at 1-1.

Lewis had an active and busy top of the fifth inning where they collected six runs on six hits to chase MSU Denver starting pitcher Samantha Mader from the game. Senior
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs High School) knocked in the first two runs of the inning with a single up the middle, followed by Frafjord bringing in two more with a double to left. Sophomore
Morgan Spodarek (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) brought in Frafjord with a ground-rule RBI double before soon coming around to score on the Flyers fourth hit in a row by freshman
Teagan Berkshire (/Lincoln-Way Central) with an RBI single to inflate the Flyers lead to 7-1.

Cheyenne Prieto responded for MSU Denver in the bottom half of the same inning with a two RBI single to cut down the Lewis lead to 7-3.

Frafjord added some insurance runs for her Lewis in the top of the sixth inning hitting Lewis' first home run of the season to right field for three runs batted in to push the score to 10-3.

Freshman
Jolee Strohmeyer (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Senior) closed out the first win of the season for the Flyers going all seven innings with three runs allowed on five hits, while picking up seven strikeouts with 116 pitches.

The Comets had a very productive top half of the first inning gathering four runs on five hits with a Lewis error with Avery Martin, Audrey Messer and Sarah Olenick all picking up RBI's to go up 4-0.

A wild pitch in the bottom of the first allowed Magdziasz to score and get Lewis in the scoring column while Frafjord and Graham advanced. A bases loaded walk by sophomore
Ava Reed (Lemont, Ill./Lemont High School) brought in Graham before a decisive three RBI triple to right center by junior
Chloe Kohnhorst (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) put the Flyers ahead in the game at 5-4.

The back-and-forth battle between the teams continued in the following inning when Julia Maniscalco brought home the tying run with a sacrifice fly to tie it at 5-5.

In the bottom of second inning for Lewis, Graham hit a sacrifice fly of her own to bring in Magdziasz before Frafjord collected another RBI with a single up the middle with sophomore
Ariana Trausch (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove High School) coming around the plate to make the score 7-5.

UT Dallas chipped away at the deficit in the top of the third with an RBI single from McKenna Holm allowing Olenick to score from second base, unearned to make the score 7-6 in favor of Lewis.

Messer later singled to shallow right field in the top of the fourth inning for the Comets to tie the game at 7-7 while Lewis left three on base in the third and two on base in the fourth.

The Comets used their pitching defense to continue to add more runs on in the top of the fifth where Maniscalco and Martin both produced RBI base hits to take the lead at 9-7 late.

The lead grew to three for UT Dallas in the top of the sixth as Brooke Bouldin hit an RBI single which increased the score to 10-7.

The Comets Allison Koch was charged with the win in relief as she quieted the Lewis offense for 4.2 innings allowing zero runs on five hits and three strikeouts as UT Dallas won 10-7.

The Flyers will be back on the field later this month playing the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Wednesday (Feb. 18) for their first game at the Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill. First pitch is scheduled at 6:00 PM CST.
