ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team fell to McKendree 61-54 Saturday (Feb. 14) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference clash at Neil Carey Arena. Lewis is now 15-9 overall, 11-5 in the GLVC, while McKendree is 14-8 overall, 11-5 in the GLVC.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Mallory Ramage (Mattoon, Ill./Loyola Chicago) had 14 points to lead Lewis, while
Ally Cesarini (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) had 10 points and nine rebounds. Baylie Parks scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Bearcats.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bearcats built an early 9-4 lead before the Flyers reeled off five straight points to even the score on a three-pointer by
Yahaira Bueno (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) and a layup by Ramage. McKendree rebuilt its five point lead, but Ramage hit a three-pointer to finish the first quarter scoring with McKendree ahead 16-14.
Baskets by Cesarini and Tene Smith gave Lewis its first lead of the game at 18-16. The teams traded baskets until a three-pointer by Ramage gave the Flyers a 27-22 advantage. McKendree came back to take a 30-29 lead into the break.
The Bearcats built as big an an eight-point advantage in the third quarter before settling for a 45-39 lead going into the fourth quarter.
McKendree built its lead to 13 points at 54-41 with 5:53 left when Lewis made its final run. The Flyers went on a 9-2 spurt to get to within six points at 56-50 with 3:49 left. However, that was as close as the Flyers could get as McKendree held on for the win.
