Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 8 Lewis University men's lacrosse team led wire-to-wire as they defeated Lake Erie, 24-6, Friday afternoon at Lewis Stadium.
With the win, the Flyers improved to 5-1 while Lake Erie dipped to 0-3.Â
IMPACT PLAYERS
Kohl Wesner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and
Paul Ruskoski (Tulsa, Oklahoma/Bishop Kelley HS) led Lewis with four goals each with Ruskoski also recording a game-high six points.
Dylan Kendrick (Chanhassen, Minnesota/Chanhassen HS) recorded a career-high nine ground balls and was nearly perfect on face-offs, going 10-for-11.
Ethan Fisher (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) and
Logan Suchy (Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota/Simley HS) each caused two turnovers while in net,
Caden Donahue (Hugo, Minnesota/Mahtomedi HS) earned his fifth win of the year, making four saves.Â
Naythan Zurowski led the Storm with three goals and four points in the losing effort. Noah Beckett earned the loss, making 13 saves in 55 minutes of play.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
THe Flyers raced out of the gate as rattled off the first three goals of the game, with
Josh Schelfe (Pasadena, Md./Northeast), Wesney and
Jake Wynecoop (Maple Valley, Wash./Tahoma) each finding the back of the net, before Lake Erie called a timeout at the 9:03 mark. The Flyers offense did not slow down after the break as theyfound twine five more time, with Wesner completing his hat trick with 50 seconds left in the frame, to lead 8-0 after 15 minutes of play.Â
The red and whites offense did not stall to begin the second stanza as they tallied two goals in the opening two minutes of action to expand their lead, 10-0. Lewis scored three of the next four goals before the half ended to lead, 13-1, after 30 minutes of action.Â
Out of the halftime break, Lewis tallied the first three goals of the half in just 3:41 to lead by 15, 16-1, at the 11:19 mark. The Flyers continued to attack Lake Erie throughout the second half and a
Ryan Wilko (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) goal at the 8:17 mark of the fourth pushed the Lewis lead to a game-high 21, 23-2. Lewis added in one more goal with 50 seconds left off the stick of
Riley Paulus (Eagan, Minnesota/Eagan HS) to complete the 24-6 win.Â
GAME NOTES
- Lewis is now 5-1 against Lake Erie. Today also marked the largest win against Lake Erie in program history
- The Flyers eclipsed 20 goals for the first time since they notched 23 goals against Northwood on Jan. 30.Â
- Lewis had 15 different goal scorers against Lake Erie, the most this season.
- Kendrick's nine ground balls are the most since Domenic Tarello (Libertyville, Illinois/Libertyville HS) had 10 against Davenport on March 15, 2025.
