Women's Basketball Ends Regular Season Road Slate with Loss to Quincy

Quincy, Ill. – The Lewis University Women's Basketball team fell 76-66 to Quincy at the Pepsi Arena in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The Flyers move to 16-11 overall and 12-7 in the GLVC, while the Hawks improve to 13-12 overall and 11-8 in GLVC play.
 
IMPACT PLAYERS
Mallory Ramage (Mattoon, Ill./Loyola Chicago) led Lewis with 18 points, scoring in double figures for the Flyers. Jasmine Jones (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds while adding 16 points. Yahaira Bueno (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) controlled the offense with eight assists.
 
Acheampomaa Danso led Quincy with 18 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis struck first and held an early 8-4 lead midway through the opening quarter after back-to-back baskets from Kree Nunnally (Crystal Lake, Ill./Example Academy) and Ally Cesarini (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township). The Flyers held strong and went on a six point run to end the first quarter at 23-16.

The Hawks clawed their way back in the second, going in front by as many as nine before Lewis trimmed the deficit to three on a three-pointer from Jasmine Jones (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) with 2:11 remaining. Quincy closed the half on a late push to take a 36-33 lead into the break.

In the third quarter, Lewis battled back behind timely free throws and a three-pointer from Ramage to pull within one at 49-48 with 2:16 to play in the period. Quincy answered with free throws and key baskets to maintain a narrow 51-48 edge entering the fourth.

Lewis made one final push in the final quarter. A layup from Jones at the 2:26 mark cut the deficit to 69-64. However, Quincy converted key free throws and added a late layup in the final seconds to secure the 76-66 victory.
 
GAME NOTES
 - Jones scored 10 of her 16 points in the second half.
- Today marked the 60th all-time meeting between both sides. 
- Bueno's eight assists marked a team high and helped Lewis record assists on numerous field goals.
 
UP NEXT
 Lewis returns home Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1:00pm for Senior Day against Upper Iowa University.
