HOW IT HAPPENED
In an air tight first set that featured multiple lead changes, the two sides found themselves tied at 24-24 after both sides posted service errors. The Flyers broke the deadlock as a Hoying kill made it a 25-24 contest. The next play, Brooks Ignosci mishandled a ball, letting Lewis take the first set, 26-24.
Tied 5-5 early in the second set, the Flyers found their spark as another attack error from the Trojans spurned a 6-0 run that vaulted Lewis ahead, 11-6. Lewis continued to keep Mount Olive at bay and a late 4-1 spurt pushed their lead to a set-best seven, 23-16, thanks to a Haber kill. The two sides exchanged the final three scores with Baggs Jr. putting down a kill to seal the 25-17 set two win.
In the final stanza, the Flyers found themselves in a three point hole, 22-19. With their backs against the wall, the red and white turned the tide as a kill from
Gauthier Brozak (Liege, Belgium/Institut de la providence de Herve) sparked a 4-0 run that gave Lewis a late 23-22 edge. Neither side found an edge the next few points as the match was again tied, 24-24 after a Flyers attack error. Still, the Flyers pulled away as Frederick Kreuger-Beer found the ground and an untimely attack error from the Trojans let Lewis win, 26-24 and complete the sweep.
