Viera West, Fla. - The Lewis University women's softball team fell today on the road against Molloy University 5-6 in the first of two games to take place today in Viera West for the Space Coast Spring Games.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
Molloy started the top of the first inning scoring two runs to nothing after Steve Dabaddie and Emily McGurk got on the scoreboard. Lewis responded by adding two runs of their own at the bottom of the first, with a run from
Nicole Magdziasz (Tinley Park, Ill./Providence Catholic High School) and a run from
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton High School) that appeared as unearned. With these two runs, the Flyers wasted no time in tying the game at two runs each.Â
Â
Both teams would actually go the next six innings without scoring a run, before coming back for an eighth inning that saw both add three runs each to their total. For Malloy, McGurk and Dabaddie added the third and fourth runs after being positioned at second and third base respectively, while Ava Zicchinelli scored her first run of the game after advancing to third base. Malroy's inning finished with three runs and three players left on base.Â
Â
Taking back over at the bottom of the eighth, the Flyers'
Ava Reed (Lemont, Ill./Lemont High School), who was on third base, advanced to the home plate to score her only run of the game. Magdziasz followed the same path, as she advanced to third base from the previous play, and after a hit from Kristie Graham went down center field, Magdziasz took the opportunity to score her second run of the game. Frafjord added the last run for the Flyers, finishing the inning with three runs and only one player left on base.
Â
Heading into the ninth inning, and with the score tied at five runs, the Flyers were looking to take the lead and close out the game. Unfortunately for the Flyers, Malloy added one more run at the top of the ninth inning and they failed to score any more runs, losing to a final score of 5-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
Viera West, Fla. - The Lewis University women's softball team fell today on the road against Hillsdale University 4-7, closing out the first day of the Space Coast Spring Games.
Â
Lewis didn't see much action in the first two innings, managing to score only one run at the top of the second inning after a great effort by
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton High School), who stole second base and proceeded to advance to third base. After Chloe Konhorst grounded out to second base, Frafjord took the opportunity to advance to home plate to score her first and only run of the game.
Â
Hillsdale saw most of their offensive output come during the first two innings, with two runs at the bottom of the first inning, and four runs at the bottom of the second. Runs by Emma Sather, Maggie Olaveson, and Taylor Lewis, closed out the second inning to bring the score to 6-1 in favor of Hillsdale, the largest lead of the game, and the highest scoring inning for either team.Â
Â
Ava Reed (Lemont, Ill./Lemont High School) hustled at the top of the third inning, stealing second and third base before scoring her first run of the game in an effort to bring the Flyers closer on the scoreboard. Reed scored one more run in the fifth inning, after moving to third base following a
Nicole Magdziasz (Tinley Park, Ill./Providence Catholic High School) walk. After a hit by
Katie Jensen (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) went down center field, Reed left third base to score her second run of the game. Magdziasz, who was standing on third base after the previous play, managed to score a run, bringing the Flyers' total runs to four. The Flyers finished the inning with two runs and three players left on base. Although the Flyers got close on the scoreboard, Hillsdale added one more run at the bottom of the sixth to close out the game. With a final score of 4-7, the Flyers' loss puts their overall record at 3-9 for the season.
