MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Lewis University softball team won a pair of games for the second straight day Tuesday (March 17), defeating Minnesota State Mankato 8-2 and Saint Anselm 8-4. The wins move the Flyers to 7-9 on the season.

GAME 1: Lewis 8, Minnesota State Mankato 2
The Flyers took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as Katie Jensen (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) had a two-RBI double and Kristen Graham (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs High School) followed with a single to score Jensen. The Mavericks came back with a pair of runs in the third inning to make it 3-2.

Lewis extended its lead to 4-2 in the fifth inning as Jolee Strohmeyer (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Senior) singled home a run. The Flyers put the game away in the bottom of the sixth inning when Morgan Spodarek (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) belted a three-run homer run. Strohmeyer helped her cause in the circle with a second RBI single to make it 8-2.

Nicole Magdziasz (Tinley Park, Ill./Providence Catholic High School) and Chloe Kohnhorst (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) had three hits each to pace the Flyers. Jensen was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Strohmeyer was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Strohmeyer (3-5) picked up the win, allowing five hits and two earned runs in seven innings. Jorey Fry (6-6) suffered the loss, allowing four hits and three earned runs in 1.2 innings.

GAME 2: Lewis 8, Saint Anselm 4
The Flyers jumped on the Hawks early and never looked back, scoring five runs in the first inning and three runs in the fourth inning.

Teagan Berkshire (/Lincoln-Way Central) started the scoring with a double down the left field line to score two runs. Hoffman followed with a single to score a run. Magdziasz grounded out on a sacrifice bunt to score Berkshire. Graham finished the scoring in the inning with a single to score Hoffman.

Anna Frafjord (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton High School) drove home the first run in the fourth inning when she reached on an error by the shortstop, driving in Hoffman. A Spodarek double drove home the final two runs of the inning.

The Hawks got three runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning and another run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Flyers were able to finish off the game with a pair of flyouts.

Graham and Spodarek each went 2-for-3 for the Flyers. Berkshire was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI, while Hoffman was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Avery Flynn (Fruitport, Mich./Spring Lake) (2-1) picked up the win, going 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs. Chloe Gust pitched 2.1 innings in relief, allowing one earned run on no hits.Kierra Souphakhot (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing five hits and five earned runs in two innings.
