Bolivar, Mo. - The Lewis University softball team won their doubleheader on the road today against Southwest Baptist University 7-2 and 8-3, making it a five-game win streak and a 17-11 overall record.
Â
GAME ONEÂ
The Flyers put on a hitting show in the first game of their double header against SBU, with 14 total, almost triple the amount from the visiting team.Â
Â
Nicole Magdziasz (Tinley Park, Ill./Providence Catholic High School) opened the scoring for the Flyers at the top of the first inning being positioned at third base while
Katie Jensen (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) was at second. A sacrifice flu by
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs High School) allowed Magdziasz to get the first run of the game. The Flyers' first inning scoring didn't stop there, as
Morgan Spodarek (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) and Jensen scored the following two runs.
Â
Lucy Sadewhite and Ashley Gruben scored SBU's two runs at the bottom of the second inning.
The Flyers went the next four innings without scoring a run, but things changed at the top of the sixth, after
Ava Reed (Lemont, Ill./Lemont High School) got her first run of the day and Jensen collected her second.Â
Â
With a 5-2 score heading into the seventh, the Flyers had the opportunity to extend their lead and close out the first game against SBU. A hit by Jensen that went down center field allowed Arianna Trausch to score the Flyers' sixth run of the game.
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, Ind./Boone Grove High School) went on to score Lewis' final run, making the final score a 7-2 win.
Â
GAME TWO
The Flyers had another dominant performance for game two of the doubleheader, this time winning the game 8-3 with a five-run third inning.Â
Â
With Anna Frajford on first base and Graham, the Flyers were set to open the score at the top of the third. A hit by Spodarek gave both Frafjord and Graham enough time to score two runs while Spodarek reached third base. Trausch and Konhorst scored the Flyers' fourth and fifth run to close their side of the inning with a total of five runs off of five hits. The third inning was the highest scoring inning from either team across both games of the doubleheader.Â
Â
Trausch didn't plan on stopping her scoring with her first run, as she hit a home run that went over left field wall at the top of the fifth inning, increasing the Flyers' lead to 6-0.
Teagan Berkshire (/Lincoln-Way Central) scored Lewis' seventh run, while Konhorst scored the eight and final run of the day, also her second run of the game.
Â
All of SBU's runs came at the bottom of the fifth, with a home run by Jacie Frencken and runs by Ava Minton and Lucy Sadewhite.
