Hammond, Ind. - Purdue Northwest's Brett Bounds drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Lewis University Baseball team fell to the Pride, 3-2, Friday afternoon at Labors' Local 41 Field.
With the win, PNW improved to 3-4 while Lewis shifted to 4-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Scoreless through 3.5 innings, the Pride struck first as Nathan Koster scored on a wild pitch to tally the first run of the game. PNW doubled their advantage in the bottom of the next frame as Billy Chidsey singled up the middle to bring Joey Guiliano home.
Lewis had an answer as with
Tylor Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) at first base after a walk, Constantine Coins connected with a ball that hit the left field foul pole to tie the game, 2-2.
Neither team tallied a run in the seventh, sending the game to extras. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Bounds singled up the middle, letting Gabe Bush advance home to secure the 3-2 walk-off win for the Pride.
UP NEXT
Game two of the Friday doubleheader between Lewis and PNW was paused with the score tied 2-2 and will resume this Sunday at 11:30 a.m. However, the game will resume on the campus of Lewis University at Brennan Field. The remaining two scheduled games for the Flyers on Sunday will be seven inning affairs as a result.
