North Canton, Ohio - The Lewis Women's Lacrosse team beat Walsh University 16-12 at Larry Staudt Field behind Jade McKinnon's (Coquitlam, BC, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) five goals.
Lewis moved to 3-2 with the win while Walsh fell to 0-4.
IMPACT PLAYERS
McKinnon had a game leading five goals while Amelia Procyk (Coquitlam, BC, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) had a game leading four assists. Alexis Riley (Viola, Del./Caesar Rodney High School) and Charlie Dayman (Langley, BC, Canada/D W Poppy Secondary School) both had four ground balls to help pace the defense with Riley also nabbing a team-best three caused turnovers. In net, Sophia Fountain (Berkeley, Ill./Montini Catholic High School) secured the win while having a season-high 14 saves.
Trinity Stowell led Walsh's offense with four goals while her and Mya Marshall both had two ground balls. Ky-Mani Naseer had nine saves on 22 shots on goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Walsh came out first and scored the first goal of the game within one minute making the score 1-0. Paterson then scored the first goal for Lewis making it 1-1. Both teams then traded goals, making it 3-2. Both teams will score two more goals making it 5-4 Walsh after 15 minutes.
Lewis came out hot in the second frame with a quick goal from Jade McKinnon (Coquitlam, BC, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) followed by four more goal from Lewis making it 9-5. Walsh tallied two goals of their own making it 9-7. Both teams found the net one more time before the buzzer, making it a 10-8 contest after 30 minutes.
Out of halftime, Eliana Cappellini (Burnaby, BC, Canada/Burnaby North Secondary School) scored the first goal for Lewis to make it 11-8. Both sides traded goal for the remainder of the quarter, making it 13-11 after three quarters of play.
In the final stanza, Jade McKinnon (Coquitlam, BC, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) scored the first two goals making it 15-11. Walsh only scored one more time while Lewis tacked on one more goal and secured the win.
GAME NOTES
- McKinnon has now scored four-or-more goals in four consecutive games.
- Both teams had 22 shots on goal
- Fountains 14 saves are the most since Myah Templeton (Bristol, Ind./Northridge High School) had 19 against Dominican on March 18, 2025.
