Romeoville, Ill. – McKendree outscored the Lewis University women's lacrosse team 7-1 in the second half to erase a two goal halftime defecit and win, 10-5, in Great Lakes Valley Conference women's lacrosse action Friday afternoon at Lewis Stadium.
With the win, the Bearcats improved to 9-3 (1-1 GLVC) while the Flyers moved to 6-5 (0-2 GLVC)
IMPACT PLAYERS
Jayna Barnden notched a hat trick while Mackenzie Stroisch tied the team-high in points three and also caused a team-best three turnovers. Amber Hayden earned the win in net, making twelve saves and snagging four grounds balls.
Eliana Cappellini (Burnaby, BC, Canada/Burnaby North Secondary School) notched two goals for the Flyers with
Georgia Kodytek (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake South) also tying Cappellini for the team lead in points.
Rylee Baaske (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North High School) caused three turnovers and
Sophia Fountain (Berkeley, Ill./Montini Catholic High School) tied the game-high in ground balls with four while making 14 saves in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tied 2-2 after 15 minutes of action, the Flyers broke the deadlock first as Cappellini notched her first of the contest to make it 3-2 with 9:37 remaining in the second. McKendree evened the contest less than two minutes later as Barnden slipped past the Lewis defense and found the back of the net at the 8:13 mark to tie the game.
Still, the red and white entered halftime with the lead as
Victoria Zielinski (Elgin, Ill./Central High School) put the ball past Hayden to give Lewis a 4-3 edge after 30 minutes of action.
Out of the halftime break, the Flyers added onto their advantage as Cappellini notched her second tally of the contest to make it 5-3 at the 10:32 mark of the third.
It was all McKendree for the remainder of the contest as the Bearcats kept Lewis scoreless and rattled off seven unanswered goals spanning the third and fourth quarter to come back and win, 10-5.

- Today marked the eighth all-time meeting between both sides
