GAME ONE

St. Louis, Mo. – The Lewis University baseball team dropped game one of its series against Maryville, falling 7-4.

Lewis came out aggressive early, recording hits in each of the first two innings, but were unable to push a run across. Maryville capitalized in the second inning, using a three-run home run to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Flyers responded in the third inning with a strong offensive frame. Constantine Coines (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) sparked the rally with a double before Jayden Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) drove in a run with an RBI single. Alex Chaltin (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) followed with another RBI knock to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Lewis evened the game in the fourth inning as Jimmy Spellman (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame College of Prep) delivered an RBI single to score Kyle Peterson (Orland Park, Ill/Carl Sandburg), tying the contest at 3-3.

Maryville answered right back, regaining the lead in the bottom half of the inning before adding three more runs in the fifth to extend the advantage to 7-3.

The Flyers continued to battle, with Coines tripling in the sixth and later scoring on Spellman's second RBI of the game to make it 7-4. However, Lewis was unable to complete the comeback, leaving runners on base late in the contest.

GAME TWO

St. Louis, Mo. – The Lewis University baseball team fell 4-0 to Maryville in game two at Weber Field.

Lewis looked to set the tone early but was retired in order in the opening frame. The Flyers continued to battle throughout the game, with Constantine Coines (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) highlighting the effort in the fourth inning after ripping a ground-rule double and advancing to third, but Lewis was unable to bring him home.

Despite the offensive struggles, the Flyers showed resilience on the mound. After Maryville built a 4-0 lead through five innings, Lewis pitching settled in and held the Saints scoreless over the final two frames, limiting further damage and keeping the game within reach.

Chris Daugherty (Chicago, Ill/Brother Rice) recorded one of Lewis' two hits on the day with a bunt single in the sixth, while the Flyers worked to generate base runners with disciplined at-bats, drawing a pair of walks late in the contest.

Lewis continued to compete defensively and on the mound, but couldn't find the timely hit needed to break through as the Flyers were shut out 4-0.
