No. 16 Men's Volleyball Tames No. 11 Lindenwood in Three

Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 16 Lewis University men's volleyball team earned a crucial late season conference victory as they swept No. 11 Lindenwood Thursday night at Neil Carey Arena.

With the win, the Flyers improved to 15-11 (7-6 MIVA) while the Lions moved to 18-5, 9-4 MIVA).

IMPACT PLAYERS
Cameron Hoying (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) led Lewis with 16 kills and a career-best .480 (min. 10 att) hitting percentage. Diego Estrada (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Adianez) dished out 25 assists and also led the way with eight digs in the winning effort. Hoying also delivered three aces as well. As a team, the Flyers hit at a clip of .324 (36-13-71) compared to .210 (31-14-81) for the Lions.

Luke Kraft led Lindenwood with 11 kills while Zach Solomon tied the match-high in assists with 25. Kraft and Owen Walsh each had five digs in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was all Flyers in the first set as a 6-1 run midway through the first stanza paired with a later 5-0 run helped the Flyers claim the 25-17 set one win and take a 1-0 match lead. In the opening credenza, Lewis limited Lindenwood to just a .08 (9-7-25) hitting percentage as well.

In a back-and-forth second set that featured multiple lead changes, the Flyers found themselves in a 21-19 hole after a late 4-0 run from the Lions. Still, the red and white had an answer as the next point, Hoying notched a kill to spark a short 4-0 spurt that put Lewis ahead, 23-22. Both sides traded the final four scores of the set with Cole Sweitzer (Middleton, Wis./Middleton HS) sealing the 25-23 set two win with his third kill of the frame.

Lewis pounced on Lindenwood to start the final set as they rattled off 11 of the first 15 points of the frame. The Flyers never relented and never let their lead dip below eight the remainder of the way while holding the visitors to a match-low .071 (7-5-28) hitting percentage to win, 25-17 and complete the sweep.
