Chicago - The #6 seed Lewis University men's volleyball team was swept by #2 seed Loyola Chicago in the semifinal round of the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament Wednesday night at Gentile Arena.

The Ramblers improved to 20-7 and will advance to play #1 seeded Ball State in the MIVA Championship while the Flyers ended the year with a 17-14 mark.Â

IMPACT PLAYERS
Aleksandar Sosa had a match-high 17 kills to lead the Ramblers while Ryan McElligott notched 39 assists. Daniel Fabikovic ended the match with 10 digs for the hosts.

Daniel Haber (Remsenburg, NY/Westhampton Beach) ended the match with 12 kills while
Diego Estrada (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Adianez) posted 25 assists.
Nico Paula (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Preparatory School) and
Cameron Hoying (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) each tied for the team-high in digs with seven while
Shawn Baggs Jr. (Gilbert, Ariz./Casteel HS) had a team-high four total blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Tied 12-12 midway through the first set, the Ramblers broke away as they embarked on a 5-2 run that put them ahead, 17-14. The Flyers attempted to grab the hosts lead, trimming their deficit to just one, 23-22, after a Hoying kill. Still, Loyola Chicago notched back-to-back scores to win, 25-23 and take a 1-0 match lead.

Even with the Flyers hitting above .300 in the second set, the Ramblers hit at a match best. 486 (22-4-27) to claim a 25-20 set two win and 2-0 match lead.

Loyola Chicago sprinted out of the gate to begin the third frame as they rattled off four of the first five points of the stanza. Still, the Flyers chipped away at their early deficit and an 8-3 run midway through the frame catapulted the red and white ahead, 21-19.

Both sides traded the next three scores, but the hosts pulled away Sosa notched back-to-back kills to spurn a 4-0 spurt that sealed the 25-23 set three win and sweep.

MATCH NOTES
- Today marked the 15th all-time meeting between Lewis and Loyola Chicago in the postseason
- Haber finished with 10-or-more kills for the fourth time in five matches
- Despite the loss, Lewis ended the match with a 5-4 advantage in total blocks
