Lebanon, Ill. – The Flyers closed out its four-game GLVC series against McKendree with an 11-6 win Sunday afternoon in Lebanon, Ill. after dropping game one Friday 11-8, splitting Saturday's doubleheader with a 5-4 loss and an 18-9 win, and finishing the weekend strong in the finale.
With the result, the Flyers move to 21-24 overall and 13-13 in GLVC play, while McKendree falls to 21-26 overall and 13-16 in conference action.
GAME RECAP
Lewis jumped out to a fast start with three runs in the first inning. Tylor Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) drew a bases-loaded walk to score Constantine Coins before Kyle Peterson (Orland Park, Ill/Carl Sandburg) followed with a two-RBI single to bring home Jimmy Spellman (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame College of Prep) and John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) for a 3-0 lead.
After McKendree answered with a solo homer in the first, Alex Chaltin (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) added a sacrifice fly in the second to score Cole Clemens (Marco Island, Flo.) and make it 4-1. The Bearcats responded with four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 5-4 lead, highlighted by Gabe Deaver's two-RBI double.
Lewis tied the game in the third when Kyle Peterson (Orland Park, Ill/Carl Sandburg) scored on a double play, and Collin Amsden (Oak Forest, Ill./Marist) helped keep McKendree scoreless through the middle innings.
The Flyers broke it open in the fifth with four runs as Cole Clemens (Marco Island, Flo.) crushed a three-run homer and Chris Daugherty (Chicago, Ill/Brother Rice) added a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 9-5.
Lewis added two more in the sixth on an RBI double from Clemens and an RBI single by Constantine Coins. McKendree scored once in the seventh, but the Flyers closed out the 11-6 victory behind strong relief work from Carter Endisch (Pewaukee, Wis./) and Ben Catrambone (Western Springs, Ill.).
