Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University softball team fell to Maryville university in their doubleheader 2-11 and 3-9 at the Lewis Softball Field.
GAME ONE
Lewis was responsible for opening the score of the game, starting with a run from Teagan Berkshire (/Lincoln-Way Central) thanks to an Erica Hoffman (Hebron, Ind./Boone Grove High School) singled to right field. Ariana Trausch (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove High School) scored the Flyers' second and final run of the game after Katie Jensen's (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) sacrifice fly gave Trausch enough time to add a run on the scoreboard.
Maryville bounced back the next inning, scoring three runs to steal Lewis' lead. The Saints scored three more runs at the top of the fifth inning and five runs in a sixth inning that saw the visitors get two home runs. The first game was called after six innings, giving Maryville the 11-2 victory over the Flyers.
GAME TWO
After the visitors were up 2-0 at the top of the first. the Flyers found a response as Katie Jensen (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) sent a ball over the outfield wall to get Lewis on the board for the first time in the second game of the double bill.
Maryville scored five more runs before the Flyers had the chance to add another run to their side of the scoreboard, with one of Maryville's runs coming in the second inning and four runs in the third. At the bottom of the fourth, the Flyers' Kristen Graham (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs High School) hit a ball that traveled all the way outside of the field for a second home run for Lewis.
The visitors scored two more runs in the sixth inning, while Lewis' Jozlynn Pacheco (/Argo Community) scored the Flyers' final run of the game at the bottom of the seventh inning
UP NEXT
The Flyers will come back tomorrow, April 26, for a doubleheader matchup at home against McKendree University, with the start time for each game set at 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. CT.
