Lewis Softball Sweeps Quincy Friday

HANNIBAL, Mo. - The Lewis University softball team swept Quincy Friday (April 3) in a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference games. The Flyers won 11-1 in five innings in the opener and 5-4 in the finale. Lewis now sits at 20-12 overall, 9-1 in the GLVC.

GAME 1: Lewis 11, Quincy 1 (5 innings)
Lewis scored in the top of the first as an Anna Frafjord (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton High School) double scored Kristen Graham (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs High School). The Hawks evened the score in the bottom of the second, but that wouldn't last long as Lewis scored twice more in the third inning to take control. A wild pitch on a walk scored Graham and then a single from Ariana Trausch (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove High School) scored Frafjord, making it 3-1.

The Flyers broke the game wide open in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs. Katie Jensen (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) started it off with a single which scored Erica Hoffman (Hebron, Ind./Boone Grove High School). Frafjord then reached on a error, which led to Jensen scoring. Then a Morgan Spofarek double scored Graham and Frafjord. Teagan Berkshire (/Lincoln-Way Central) hit a sacrifice fly that scored Spodarek and Hoffman finished off the inning with a single, scoring Trausch and Chloe Kohnhorst (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) to make it 10-1. A Graham single in the fifth which scored Jensen finished off the scoring.

Jensen went 3-for-4 at the place with two runs scored, while Frafjord was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Graham scored three times in the contest, while Spodarek and Hoffman each had two RBI.

Jolee Strohmeyer (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Senior) (9-8) earned the win, allowing four hits and one earned run in five innings. Alexus Freeman (1-8) suffered the loss, allowing six hits and five earned runs in 3.1 innings.

GAME 2: Lewis 5, Quincy 4
The Flyers kept the momentum going from the first game, scoring twice in the third inning and two more times in the top of the sixth to make it 4-0. A Jensen double in the third scored Nicole Magdziasz (Tinley Park, Ill./Providence Catholic High School), and then a Graham fly out scored Jensen.

In the sixth inning a Hoffman single scored Trausch and Jensen had a sacrifice fly which scored Berkshire. The Hawks came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-2.

Hoffman had her fourth RBI of the day when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 5-2. That proved to be the winning run as Quincy scored on a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh before a foul out ended the game.

Jensen and Hoffman each had two RBI to pace a Flyer offense that totaled six hits. Avery Flynn (Fruitport, Mich./Spring Lake) moved to 8-1 on the year after allowing nine hits and four earned runs in 6.2 innings. Strohmeyer picked up her second save of the year after registering the final out. Haley Martin (2-14) took the loss, allowing six hits and four earned runs in seven innings.
