ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University softball team dropped a pair of games to Drury 6-3 and 13-0 Saturday (April 11) at the Lewis Softball Field. The Flyers fall to 20-14 overall, 9-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Drury moves to 19-22 overall, 9-9 in the GLVC.
GAME 1: Drury 6, Lewis 3
The Panthers put up five runs in the top of the first inning as a pair of errors proved costly for the Flyers. Lewis came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to make it 5-2.
Ariana Trausch (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove High School) grounded out to the pitcher, scoring
Morgan Spodarek (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) and
Teagan Berkshire (/Lincoln-Way Central) grounded out to short, scoring
Chloe Kohnhorst (Minooka, Ill./Minooka).
Kohnhorst made it a 5-3 game in the sixth inning with a single to left field, scoring Spodarek. However, Drury scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh and held the Flyers scoreless in the bottom half of the seventh.
Jordyn Foley (9-8) picked up the win, allowing seven hits and three earned runs over seven innings.
Jolee Strohmeyer (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Senior) (9-9) suffered the loss, allowing five hits and six runs, with two earned, over seven innings. Kohnhorst went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Flyers, while Spodarek went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
GAME 2: Drury 13, Lewis 0 (5 innings)
The Panthers scored runs in all five innings to complete the sweep. They tallied a run in the first and second innings, four runs in the third, two in the fourth and five in the fifth.
Lewis had bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the first but could not push a run across and would not get a hit for the remainder of the game.
Kaley Adzick (7-8) picked up the win, allowing two hits in five innings.
Avery Flynn (Fruitport, Mich./Spring Lake) (8-2) suffered the loss, allowing seven hits and six runs, two earned, in 2.2 innings.
UP NEXT
The Flyers will look to bounce back Sunday when they play host to Missouri S&T in a doubleheader that starts at noon.
