Crestwood, Ill. - The Lewis University baseball team defeated Roosevelt University 16-9 on the road today (April 7), improving their win streak to six games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis opened the scoreboard at the top of the third inning with five runs.
Chris Daugherty's (Chicago, Ill/Brother Rice) hit went down right center field, allowing him to reach first base. Tyler Phommachanhom, who had stolen second base, took the opportunity to reach home plate and score the Flyers' first run.
Chris Daugherty (Chicago, Ill/Brother Rice) followed up with Lewis' second run, while
Jayden Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) scored on a throwing error.
Alex Chaltin (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) and John Henry Rusell gave the Flyers two more runs to bring the lead up to 5-0. The hosts responded by scoring four runs to trim the Lewis lead to just one, 5-4.
At the top of the sixth,
Cole Clemens (Marco Island, Flo.) singled to left field.
Griffin Zweeres' (Morris, Ill./Morris) sacrifice play allowed Clemens to reach second, bringing him closer to scoring his first run of the game. After Phommachanhom tripled to right field,

The Flyers saw the most action at the top of the seventh, scoring nine runs, while the hosts allowed eight walks. Rusell,
Brian Twomey (Brookfield, Ill./Riverside Brookfield), Zweeres on an unearned run brought the Flyers' run total to double digits with 10 runs.Constantine Coins socred his first run of the game on the throw, unearned, while Phommachanhom got a third run after advancing to third base on the previous play. Daugherty, Chaltin and Russell scored the last three runs for the Flyers, closing their nine-run inning, eventually winning with a final score of 16-5. The game was called after eight innings.

The Lewis University baseball team will look to increase their winning streak to seven games when they visit Maryville University for a four-game series, with the first game starting this Friday (April 10) at 2:00 p.m. CT.
