Romeoville, Ill. – Leo Cann tallied three points for Quincy to lead the visitors past the Lewis men's soccer team, 3-1, Wednesday (Sept. 16) at Lewis Stadium. With the loss, Lewis moved to 2-3-1 (1-2-1 GLVC), while Quincy improved to 4-1-2 (3-0-1 GLVC).
IMPACT PLAYERS
Lance Somerfield (Orland Park, Ill./Eastern Illinois) led the Flyers with one goal, while goalkeeper Matija Blazic (Obrenovac Beograd, Serbia/Gimnazija u Obrenovcu) made four saves.
For the Hawks, Cann, Carter Venvertloh and Erik Abraham each scored one goal. In net, Jake Offerman made one save.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams battled throughout the first half, trading possession of the ball. Neither team found the back of the net as the opening 45 minutes ended with the Hawks tallying five shots and the Flyers recording three.
The Hawks came out eager to start the second half and struck just 38 seconds in when Cann scored off an assist from Josh Nwosu. Just 10 minutes later, Lewis was fouled inside the box and awarded a penalty kick. Somerfield stepped up and converted the attempt to tie the game at 1-1.
Quincy regained the lead in the 69th minute as Venvertloh scored to put the Hawks ahead, 2-1. Lewis attempted to respond with multiple shots but was unable to find an equalizer. Quincy added its third goal of the night in the 76th minute as Abraham scored off an assist from Cann to make it 3-1.
GAME NOTES
- Both Quincy and Lewis received two yellow cards.
- Ryvin DelPilar (Schiller Park, Ill./Leyden) made his collegiate debut.
- Lewis' record against Quincy now stands at 15-12-3.
- Lewis recorded six shots, while Quincy tallied 13.
