ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis women's soccer battled Missouri-St. Louis Wednesday evening, but the Flyers ultimately fell 2-1 to the Tritons. With the result, Lewis moves to 2-5-0 overall (1-3-0 GLVC), while UMSL advances to 5-1-2 (4-0-1 GLVC).
IMPACT PLAYERS
Anna Linsler (Emmendingen, Germany) scored the Flyers' lone goal, while
Jillian Barth (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) made six saves.
For Missouri-St. Louis, Olivia Lautz and Madi Riege each scored, with Josie Maddox recording an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Missouri-St. Louis struck first in the 14th minute when Lautz found the back of the net off an assist from Maddox to give the Tritons a 1-0 lead.
Lewis nearly evened the score in the 35th minute when
Caroline Hadler (Elk Grove Ill./Elk Grove HS) put a shot on frame, but UMSL goalkeeper Allysa Wolf saved it for the Tritons heading into halftime.
UMSL extended its lead in the 56th minute when Riege scored to make it 2-0.
The Flyers answered just over five minutes later. In the 62nd minute, Linsler found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Lewis continued to pressure the Tritons late, with Hadler,
Anna Dazey (Corvallis, Ore./Linfield) and
Maggie Maher (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) each putting shots on frame, but UMSL held on for the victory.
GAME NOTES
- Linsler recorded her first goal of the season.
- Lewis recorded seven shots, including five on goal.
- Wednesday marked the 16th meeting between Lewis and Missouri-St. Louis.
