ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Anna Linsler's (Emmendingen, Germany/Marshall) goal in the 76th minute broke a 1-1 deadlock, lifting the Lewis women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Drury in Great Lakes Valley Conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Lewis Stadium.
With the win, the Flyers improved to 4-5-1 (3-3-1) while the Panthers dipped to 2-4-4 (2-2-2).
IMPACT PLAYERS
Linsler and
Anna Dazey (Corvallis, Ore./Linfield) accounted for the Flyers' two goals, with
Ximena Magaña (Elgin, Ill./Elgin) providing assists on both. In net,
Jillian Barth (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) made two saves in the winning effort.
Grace Pohl scored the lone goal for Drury, while Carly Swan led the Panthers in shots with three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Scoreless after the first 45 minutes, Drury struck first in the 53rd minute as Pohl collected a pass from Elli Davison and sent the ball into the back of the net for the first goal of the afternoon.
Dazey drew the match level in the 65th minute as she slipped past the Drury defense and sent the ball into the bottom corner for her first goal of the year.
Lewis completed its comeback in the 75th minute as Magaña sent a ball forward to Linsler, who rifled the ball past the Panthers' keeper to vault Lewis ahead, 2-1.
The Flyers' defense limited the Panthers to just one shot for the rest of the game to secure the home victory.
GAME NOTES
- Today marked the 23rd all-time meeting between Lewis and Drury.
- Magaña's two assists were the first of her collegiate career.
- Lewis received zero cards while Drury was given one yellow card.
- Linsler has now scored in consecutive games.
