Didi Barreto

Highly regarded goalkeeper coach Didi Barreto joined the Lewis University men's soccer staff in 2006 to work with the Flyers' netminders.

Barreto played a key role in the development of former Flyer goaltender Anthony Szymel. In 2008, Szymel posted the nation's best save percentage, stopping 88.5% of the shots that he faced, while posting 10 shutouts and a goals-against-average of 0.52.

A native of Brazil, Barreto has coached club soccer at many levels in the Chicagoland area and has served as goalkeeper coach for the Aurora University women's team and the Neuqua Valley High School boys' team.

Barreto enjoyed a highly successful playing career with the Brazilian national team and as a professional. She was a member of national teams that finished fourth at the 1996 Olympics and third at the 1988 and 1999 World Cup, and she played on several championship teams at the professional level. Barreto was selected Best Female Athlete of 1996 by the Brazilian Association of Sports Chroniclers.

Barreto resides in Naperville and operates Didi's Soccer Academy in Aurora.
