The 2012-13 season is the sixth for Tracy Summers (nee Buchholz) as an assistant coach/associate head coach at Lewis University. She has helped Lewis to Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships in 2006-07 and 2010-11.
As the recruiting coordinator for the Lewis program, Summers serves as the primary recruiting contact and handles all official visits. She coordinates the strength and conditioning program for the team and is Lewis' perimeter coach. She's involved in the scouting of opponents and helps implement game plans. Outside of the gym, Summers monitors the academic process of the team, coordinates team travel and serves as the alumnae liaison.
Summers returned to Lewis for the 2008-09 school year after a one-year stint at DePaul University as the Director of Basketball Operations. At DePaul, Summers aided the team to a 20-12 record and its sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. She oversaw game tape exchange, opponent scouting, student managers and assisted in practice/game preparations.
Prior to DePaul, Summers served as an assistant coach at Lewis for the 2006-07 season. She handled all aspects of the program and helped the team to a program-best 28-4 record. In addition, Lewis won its first GLVC Championship since 1985 and advanced to the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional semifinal. She served as interim head coach after Lynn Plett left the program following the season.
Summers came to Lewis after a season as an assistant coach at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Mich. She helped guide the team to a 29-5 record in 2005-06. Davenport won the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament and advanced to the NAIA national tournament.
A 2004 graduate of Lewis, Summers finished her playing career ranked among all-time leaders in free throw percentage, three-point field goals, three-point field goal percentage and career scoring. She played in 108 games with 164 career three-pointers and was ranked seventh in the nation in 3-point field-goal percentage as a senior. Off the court, she was a GLVC Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior and picked up Academic All-GLVC honors four times. In 2010 Summers earned her MBA from Lewis.
She and her husband Brian have one daughter, Peyton. They reside in Joliet, Ill.
