ROMEOVILLE - Indianapolis scored three unearned runs in the top of the 12th and defeated Lewis 9-6 Wednesday in game one of a Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball doubleheader.

In game two, Indy's Gary Maurer fired a three-hitter and the Greyhounds completed the sweep with a 4-1 win.

In the opener, the Flyers (9-17, 3-8 GLVC) scored five runs, four of them unearned, in the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Andy Sweet (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere)'s three-run double with two outs was the big blow.

Indianapolis (10-17, 6-10 GLVC) made it 5-3 in the sixth and scored twice in the seventh to send the scheduled seven-inning contest into extra frames. The Flyers loaded the bases in the eighth but failed to score.

After each team plated an unearned run in the 10th, Lewis loaded the bases again in the 11th with one out. Indianapolis brought its infield and outfield in and stationed left fielder Matt East in front of second base. The move paid off as East turned Chris Carbonaro (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy)'s scorching line drive into an unassisted double play, setting the stage for the Greyhounds' 12th-inning rally.

Victor Naut and Brian Davis had two hits apiece for the Flyers, who were limited to seven hits.

Starting pitcher Matt Tanton fared well, tossing 5 2/3 innings and allowing eight hits, three runs (two earned) and no walks, and Matt Rolle pitched two innings of one-hit scoreless relief. Ryan Johnson (0-2) suffered the loss.

In game two, Indy struck for two runs in the first inning off Lewis starter Chad Dahlman (0-3). Lewis scored its only run in the bottom half on a wild pitch following a single by Davis and a double by Ahren Baranski.

The Greyhounds tallied another run in the second and added an insurance run in the seventh in support of Maurer (2-2), who struck out nine and walked only one.

Justin Barr pitched 4 2/3 innings of impressive relief for Lewis, allowing a run on one hit and fanning six.

The Flyers travel to Louisville, Ky., for GLVC doubleheaders against Bellarmine Saturday and Sunday. Game time both days is noon Eastern.
