Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Chris Carbonaro (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy)'s ninth-inning sacrifice fly gave the Lewis University baseball team a 7-6 victory over Lynn University Thursday. Carbonaro's fly ball scored Andy Sweet, who led off with a double and advanced to third on Brandon Niewinski (Morris, Ill./Morris)'s ground ball to the right side.

The run made a winner of Dave Scheibe (1-0), who worked 3 2/3 solid innings in relief of starter Chad Dahlman. Scheibe allowed two runs and six hits, struck out three and did not walk a batter. Dave Tolchin recorded the last two outs to notch his third save.

The Flyers (4-5) jumped to a 2-0 lead with single tallies in the second and third. Tolchin's two-out single in the second scored Carbonaro, who led off with a double and went to third on Matt Flavin (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice)'s sacrifice.

With one out in the third, Brian Davis reached on an error, one of five Lynn miscues. Davis went to third on Sweet's single and scored on Carbonaro's two-out single.

Lynn (6-12) took a 3-2 lead with two runs in the third and one in the fourth. Lewis pulled even in the fifth when Andy Radak led off with a single, went to third on an errant pickoff throw and scored on Davis' sacrifice fly.

Lynn grabbed a 4-3 edge in its half of the fifth, but the Flyers worked some more two-out magic in the seventh to knot the score again. Davis reached second on a double error by the shortstop and scored on Sweet's single.

The Flyers took a 6-4 lead in the eighth. Carbonaro produced another leadoff double and went to third on a sacrifice by Flavin, who reached on an error. After Flavin was caught stealing, Ahren Baranski singled home Carbonaro. Tolchin's single put runners at first and third, and Baranski scored on Mike Smith (Lemont, Ill./Lemont)'s squeeze bunt.

Lynn scored twice in the bottom of the eighth, setting the stage for Lewis' ninth-inning heroics.

The Flyers and Knights play game two of their three-game series Friday at 2:30 p.m.
