Pestinger Helps Men’s Tennis Clinch 5-4 Win Over Indianapolis, 5-4

Flyers earn second GLVC win of the season; Pestinger breaks tie with win in final match.

Lorenz Pestinger won the deciding match against UIndy on Friday.
Indianapolis, Ind. – With the score tied 4-4, Lewis University junior Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany, Humboldtschule, Missouri Valley) defeated Jeff Price at No. 5 singles, 7-6 (7-1), 3-6, 6-4 to lift the men's tennis team to a 5-4 victory over host Indianapolis in a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup on Friday (Apr. 1) afternoon at the UIndy Tennis Center.
“Today came down to Lorenz and he found a way to get the job done,” Lewis University head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. “It was a great college tennis match.”
With the win, the Flyers improve to 6-2 (2-0 GLVC) while the Greyhounds drop to 8-10 (0-2 GLVC).
Pestinger and junior Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill., Richards, Moraine Valley C.C.) won the lone doubles match for Lewis at No. 2 as the duo defeated Price and David Schoch, 8-5. Wojnarowski later claimed a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Caleb Fellers at No. 3 singles.
At No. 1 singles, Lewis redshirt junior Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia, Audentese) earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Christian Nikou for his 12th straight victory in singles play.
Flyer sophomore Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis., St. Catherine's) defeated Alex Poe, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
“We got behind after the doubles play buy UIndy played very well to put us into that position,” Bridel added. “Uno (Lapimaa) got us back to even and from there it was a real fight for every match.”
The Flyers are back in action on Saturday (Apr. 2) as they host Missouri-St. Louis for a non-conference match at 12 PM at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex.
