Romeoville, Ill.
- The Lewis University men's soccer team played under the stars for the first time ever on Friday (Sept. 23) night, but no one shined as bright as sophomore forward Cristhian Ramirez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling/Emerald Coast United Academy).

The Wheeling, Ill., native collected a first-half hat-trick to propel the Flyers to the 8-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over Maryville at the MAC (Multi-Purpose Athletics Complex).

The eight scores is the most by a Flyer team since an 8-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan on October 5, 2007. Ramirez's hat-trick is the first by a Flyer since Armin Vrebac (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) did the deed in a 3-2 win over UW-Parkside on October 8, 2010.

"You couldn't have asked for a better night," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "From the lights, the fans, the pregame ceremony. It was good to finish with a win."

With the win, Lewis improves to 3-4 on the season and 3-2 in conference play, while the Saints drop to 2-5-1 on the campaign and 1-4 in GLVC action.

Along with Ramirez's hat trick in the first half, the Flyers received scores from Aloisio Barros (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Pampulha) (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Pampulha/Marshaltown C.C.) and senior Eduardo Acxer Way (Chicago, Ill./Schurz) (Chicago, Ill./Schurz/Wartburg). Barros also paired up with freshman David Pyle (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) to assist on Ramirez's second goal in the first half.

Freshman George Thomson (Kilmarnock, Scotland/Reid Kerr College) (Kilmarnock, Scotland/Reid Kerr College) posted a goal and two assists on the evening for the Flyers, while teammates Robert McGowan (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) and Ryan Turner (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport/Bradley) each chipped in a score.

Senior Robens Decius (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Glades) (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Glades/East Central College) and freshman Nick Miller (Chandler, Ariz./Perry) (Chandler, Ariz./Perry) each had an assist for the Flyers on Friday.

Lewis goalkeepers Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) (Mokena, Ill./Providence), Sebastian Kieruzal (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) and Daniel Walsh (Lake City, Fla./Columbia) (Lake City, Fla./Columbia/Barry) combined for three saves on the evening to secure the shutout victory.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 25), as they welcome Missouri-St. Louis for a 2:30 p.m. start.
