Lewis Men's Basketball Looks To Upset No. 9 Northern Kentucky On Saturday

Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. (EST) at the Bank of Kentucky Center.

For the second time this season, the Lewis University men's basketball team will play back-to-back games against Top Ten teams, as the Flyers (11-5, 3-5 GLVC) head to Highland Heights, Ky., to meet No. 9 Northern Kentucky (14-2, 6-2 GLVC) on Saturday (Jan. 21) evening. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. (EST) at the Bank of Kentucky Center.

ALL TIME SERIES - Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, Northern Kentucky holds a 37-16 advantage over the Flyers in their all-time series.

LAST TIME WE MET - Northern Kentucky went on a 26-9 run and held Lewis to a 22.2% (6-for-27) shooting performance in the final stanza, as the visiting Norse claimed the 65-48 GLVC victory at Neil Carey Arena on January 4, 2011.

LAST TIME OUT - The Flyers were done in by a season-high 21 turnovers, as the No. 2 ranked Bellarmine Knights scored 32 points off of those miscues on their way to the 84-56 GLVC victory at Knights Hall on Thursday (Jan. 19) night.

REMEMBER WHEN - Northern Kentucky has won the last four meetings between the Flyers and Norse. Lewis' last victory over NKU came on March 4, 2008, as the Flyers upset the top-seeded Norse, 80-76, in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament.

RANKED, SCHMANKED - The last time Lewis defeated a ranked opponent came last season, as the Flyers upset the No. 24 Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers, 86-81, on January 29, 2011.

FRESH FROSH - Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) and Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) are the first pair of freshmen that Scott Trost has ever started in his 15 years as a head coach.

FAB FRESH - Together, Jackson (11.8 ppg.) and Lewis (8.4 ppg) are averaging 20.2 points-per-game for the Flyers.  

IN IT UNTIL THE END - The score was either tied or Lewis held a lead with under one minute left in three of the Flyers' five losses this season.

NOT MY BROTHER - Senior forward Justin Jarosz (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) and freshman guard Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) are not related.

PLAYING CLEAN - As of January 15th, Lewis is ranked fourth in the nation, averaging 14.1 fouls-per-game.

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - Lewis is 22-8 (.733) since 2006-07 when they knock down at least 50.0% of their three-point attempts (min. 5 made).

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN (PART DEUX) - Jackson has converted 50.0% (16-for-32) of his three-point field goal attempts this year. That puts him fourth overall in the conference and ties him for third in Lewis school-history for three-point field goal percentage for a single-season.

HONORING HIS BROTHER - Junior guard David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) wears the number 12 in honor of his late brother Kevin who played for Trost at Illinois Wesleyan from 2004-06.  

CLEANING UP THE GLASS - Lewis is tops among GLVC freshmen with 5.4 rebounds-per-game.

POUNDING THE GLASS - Lewis is 14-3 (.824) when senior forward Matt Toth (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) leads the team in rebounding during his career.
 
HE'S NO SAMSON - Senior forward Lonnie Lawrence (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) is sporting a new look, as the Bloomington, Ill., native has cut his trademark braids. Since the trim, Lawrence is averaging 8.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals-per-game in seven contests.

DEFENSIVE CLAMPS - Lewis has held nine opponents this season to under 60 points, which is the most by a Flyer squad since the 2001-02 season when they did it 11 times.

CLOSE CALLS - During Trost's career at Lewis, the Flyers are 26-25 (.510) in games decided by five points or less, which accounts for 31.7% of the 161 games he has coached in.

250 CLUB - Trost's next win as the Flyers' skipper will mark the 250th career victory in his 15-year head coaching career.

50/50 - Lewis is 6-0 this year when they have a field goal percentage of 50.0% or better. Since the 2006-07 campaign, the Flyers have a record of 52-10 (.839) when they shoot over 50.0%.
