Romeoville, Ill. -
While the weather was cold outside, the Lewis University men's track and field team was blazing hot, as the Flyers won six events at the Dick Pond Invitational in the Recreation Center Fieldhouse on Friday (Jan. 20) night.

The inclement weather delayed the field events for three hours and the running events by two hours.

"I thought the whole team handled the delayed time schedule very well," Lewis head men's track and field coach Dana Schwarting said. "They could have used it as an excuse, but they stayed mentally strong and we had some good performances because of it."

Lewis senior Lonzo Harris (Oswego, Ill./Oswego East) (Oswego, Ill./Oswego East) captured the 55-meter dash title with a time of 6.53, while junior Scott Tanis (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) won the 1-mile run, crossing the finish line in 4:24.17.

The Flyers also received wins from both the 4x200 relay (1:34.16) and 4x400 relay (3:28.56) teams.

Lewis sophomore Robert Sterling (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) took home the 400-meter dash title with a time of 51.43, while freshman Matt Jemilo (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) was victorious in the 800-meter run (1:56.36).

Flyer freshman Kevin Dorenkamper (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) was second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.02) and 200-meter dash (23.66), while classmate Carl Ba-ad (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) claimed a runner-up finish in the pole vault (3.65 meters).

Lewis freshman #Jesse Steward, Jr.# (Chicago, Ill./Marian Catholic/Purdue) also finished second in the long jump (6.42 meters), while junior Anthony Smith (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) was a runner-up in the weight throw (14.34 meters).

Lewis returns to acton on Friday (Jan. 27), as the Flyers head to Bloomington, Ind., to participate in the Indiana Relays.
