Hillsdale, Mich. - Lewis University senior men's swimmer
Brandon Drogemuller (Hollister, Calif./San Benito) finished first in two events for the Flyers as the team fell to Grand Valley State 169-68 on Saturday (Oct. 20) at Hillsdale College to open the 2012-13 season.
Drogemuller posted a time of 9:49.92 to win the 1000-yard freestyle while posting a first-place time of 4:52.07 in the 500-yard freestyle.
"Today was a good start to our season," Lewis head swimming coach
Roger Karns said. "We had some very good swims from our upperclassmen as well as from the freshmen."
Junior
Derick Carlson (Norridge, Ill./St. Patrick) took first place in the 200-yard freestyle touching in at 1:45.41. He later took third in the 100-yard freestyle (41.71).
Sophomore
Tyson Polack (Canby, Ore./Canby) was first in the 100-yard backstroke, posting a time of 54.52, while he finished third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.66).
In the 200-yard medley relay, Lewis Team A, consisting of Polack,
Zach Ballon Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek),
Kyle Kummer (Addison, Ill./Willowbrook) and
Brett Busch (East Moline, Ill./United Township), finished second (1:40.66). The relay team of Carlson, Krummer, Drogemuller and
Brandon Busch (East Moline, Ill./United Township) took third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:32.30).
"As always, there are areas of improvement for the next few weeks of training," Karns said. "In all, it was a great start for the season."
Lewis' next competition is the Notre Dame College Division II Invite in Geneva, Ohio on Saturday (Oct. 27).
