Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) proved why they are No. 1 and No. 2 in the Midwest Region, as the Hungarian duo each claimed a pair of victories in the Flyers' 7-2 regional win over Michigan Tech at the Gates Tennis Center on Saturday (Feb. 18) morning.
Lanstiak opened with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Natalia Lebedeva at No. 1 singles and paired up with senior
Bayley Brown (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Central) for the 8-1 win over Lebedeva and Kira Eck at No. 1 doubles. Kranczicki claimed the 6-3, 6-3 win over Ploy Suthijindawong at No. 2 singles and paired up with freshman
Brianna Markgraf (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) for the 8-5 win over Suthijindawong and Chelsea Uganski at No. 2 doubles.
"We overcame some unforced errors to come out with a victory today," Lewis head women's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said. "I am proud of everyone's effort and the way we fought for every point.
"We will continue to work hard and get better.
WIth the win, Lewis improves to 3-1 on the campaign, while the host Huskies are now 3-10.
The Flyers also received a win at No. 5 singles from sophomore
Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) (Elmhurst, Ill./York). Mills picked up the 6-0, 6-2 win over Audrey Hutton. Lewis took home two more default victories at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Feb. 19), as the Flyers head to Sault St. Marie, Michigan to meet Lake Superior State for a 12 p.m. first serve.
