Michigan City, Ind. - With a 10 p.m. start against St. Francis (Ill.) on Saturday night and a 9 a.m. showdown with Quincy looming on Sunday morning, the Lewis University men's tennis team made quick work of their local rivals, as it took the Flyers two hours to earn the 9-0 shutout of the Fighting Saints, at the NAC Invitational, hosted by Saint Joseph's.
The win also came a few hours after the Flyers' 9-0 triumph over William Jewell.
"It was a long day at the tennis club, but the guys did a great job keeping their focus and finishing the work today," Lewis head men's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said.
With the win, Lewis improves to 4-1 on the season, while St. Francis (Ill.) falls to 2-1 on the campaign.
Lewis freshman
Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) teamed up with senior Uno Lapimaaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) at No. 1 doubles to claim the 8-0 win over USF's Alex Haizel and Mark Zubov. Aunapuu also took down Zubov at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
At No. 2 doubles, Lewis freshman
Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) and senior
Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards/Moraine Valley C.C.) paired up for the 8-1 victory over Chad Randall and Eddie Semik. Levandi also dropped Haizel, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, while Wojnarowski upended Diego Mogrovejo, 8-4, at No. 3 singles.
Lewis freshman
John Richert (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and junior
Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) combined for the 8-1 win over Mogrovejo and Aaron Sanderson at No. 3 doubles. Hardacre felled Randall, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4 singles, while Richert blanked Sanderson, 8-0, at No. 6 singles.
Flyer freshman
Isriz Balase (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg/Harper) claimed the final victory for Lewis with the 6-3, 6-0 win over Semik at No. 5 singles.
