2011-12 Highlights: Finished rookie season with a singles record of 8-10 and a combined doubles mark of 7-5...started off his Lewis career with four-straight singles victories over Michigan Tech's Bryan Bartelt (6-1, 6-0) on February 18th, William Jewell's Jimmy Hunter (8-4) on February 25th, St. Francis' (Ill.) Eddie Semik (6-3, 6-0) and Quincy's Greg Kuchta (8-2) on February 26th...earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over UIndy's Preston Swain at No. 6 singles and paired up with Jesse Hardacre for the 8-4 win over Trevor Cox and Caleb Fellers at No. 3 doubles in the Flyers' 8-1 win over the Greyhounds on April 1st...he and Hardacre won their first five doubles matches of the season, including an 8-5 win over Nebraska-Kearney's Kyle Conzemius and Revel Yehezzkia in Lewis' 7-2 upset over the No. 27 Lopers on March 7...picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Chicago State's Samuel McKinney in Lewis' 7-0 shutout of the Division I Cougars on April 11th...claimed the 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 win over Bellarmine's Alan Gardner at No. 6 singles in the Flyers' 9-0 win over the Knights on April 13th...defeated Olivet Nazarene's Seth Perry (6-2, 6-0) in Lewis' 8-1 win on April 17th. 

Prior to Lewis: Spent the 2011 fall semester at Harper Community College.

Prep/Personal: Four-year letterwinner at No. 1 singles for Schaumburg...four-time All-MSL Conference selection...three-time IHSA State Tournament qualifier...two-time runner-up at the MSL Conference Tournament...was first Saxon tennis player to total over 100 singles victories...son of Hugo and Evelyn Balase...major is biology.
