Chicago, Ill. -
The No. 37 Lewis University men's tennis team earned its first win over a Division I opponent in over two seasons, as the Flyers claimed the 7-0 non-conference victory over Chicago State on Wednesday (Apr. 11) afternoon.

Lewis' last win over a DI opponent came on March 22, 2010, as the Flyers handed Western Illinois a 5-2 defeat.

"I thought we played some really smart, solid tennis today," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said.

With the win, Lewis improves to 15-3 on the campaign, while Chicago State remains winless at 0-22.

Playing Division I rules, the Flyers had to win two out of three doubles matches to secure one team point. Lewis wasted no time and won all three to take an early 1-0 lead over the host Cougars.

Lapimaa added a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Muresan at No. 1 singles, while Levandi handed Julian Chavez a 6-1, 6-2 defeat at No. 3 singles.

Aunapuu later collected a 6-3, 6-3 win over Naboa at No. 2 singles, while Wojnarowski emerged victorious with the 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Luis Ulloa at No. 5 singles.

The Flyers' final doubles victory came at No. 3, as junior Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and freshman John Richert (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) bested Samuel McKinney and Ulloa, 8-1. Hardacre went on to defeat Yeremia, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, while freshmen Isriz Balase (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg/Harper) claimed the 6-0, 6-1 win over McKinney at No. 6 singles.
