No. 37 Lewis Men's Tennis Cruises Past Bellarmine, 9-0

Flyers improve to 16-3 on the season.

The No. 37 Lewis University men's tennis team pitched their sixth shutout of the season, as the host Flyers blanked Bellarmine for the 9-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory on Friday (Apr. 13) afternoon at Challenge Fitness.

"I thought we played really well in doubles and that carried into our singles play," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "We communicated and worked really well as a team today."

With the victory, Lewis improves to 16-3 on the campaign and 3-1 in conference action, while the visiting Knights are now 7-12 overall and 1-4 in GLVC play.

Lewis swept all three doubles matches with senior Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) and freshman Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) picking up the 8-4 win over Bellarmine's Alex Chanley and Anton Rabinov at No. 1. Lapimaa also earned the 6-3, 7-5 win over Rabinov at No. 1 singles, while Aunapuu dropped Jacob Knagenhjelm, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.

At No. 2 doubles, Lewis' tandem of senior MIchael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards/Moraine Valley C.C.) and freshman Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) defeated Knagenhjelm and Carlos Antonioli, 8-4. Wojnarowski felled Chanley, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, while Levandi earned the 6-4, 6-3 win over Jimmy Fernandez at No. 3 singles.

Lewis' duo of junior Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and freshman John Richert (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) upended Fernandez and Alan Gardiner, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles. Hardacre later earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Antonioli at No. 4 singles, while freshman Isriz Balase (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg/Harper) claimed the 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 win over Gardiner at No. 6 singles.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 14), as the Flyers welcome Northern Kentucky to the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex for a 10 a.m. first serve.
