Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 37 Lewis University men's tennis tuned up for this weekend's upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with an 8-1 non-conference victory over Olivet Nazarene at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex on Tuesday (Apr. 17) afternoon.
"We did some good things in the doubles today and for the most part everyone played well in singles," Lewis head men's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said. "It was a good confidence boost going into the GLVC Tournament."
With the win, Lewis improves to 17-4 on the season, while Olivet Nazarene is now 11-4.
At No. 1 doubles, Lewis'
Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards/Moraine Valley C.C.) and freshman
Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) edged ONU's Diego Gonsalvez and Sebastian Esquetini, 9-8. Wojnarowski dropped Josue Sanchez, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles, while Levandi upended Gonsalvez, 7-6, 2-6, 7-6, at No. 3 singles.
Lewis' No. 2 team of
Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) and
Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) paired up for the 8-3 win over Billy Ratthahao and Julian Kurz. Aunapuu added a 6-1, 6-3 win over Esquetini at No. 2 singles.
At No. 3 doubles, Lewis junior
Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and freshman
John Richert (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) felled Peter Sanchez and Jensen, 8-2. Hardacre also beat Jensen, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, while freshman
Isriz Balase (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) was victorious at No. 6 singles, defeating Seth Perry, 6-2, 6-0.
Lewis opens up GLVC Tournament play against Rockhurst at 11 a.m. on Friday (Apr. 20) morning at the Gillenwaters Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
