Lewis Women's Basketball To Take On Bellarmine Saturday

Alexus Grayer is No. 1 in the nation with a 52.6% three-point field-goal percentage.

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team (11-2, 4-1 GLVC) puts their three-game winning streak on the line when they head to Bellarmine (12-4, 2-3 GLVC) for a Saturday (Jan. 19) Great Lakes Valley Conference battle at 1 PM ET.

LAST TIME OUT - Seniors Labrenthia Murdock and Sam Rinehart both posted 19 points as the Flyers defeated McKendree, 69-55, on Thursday.  

SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS - Chancellor Dugan is in her first season at the helm of the Bellarmine women's basketball program, after 13 seasons as the head coach at Florida Atlantic. Senior guard Betsy Goodin who is averaging 11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per-game leads the Knights.

ALL TIME SERIES - Bellarmine holds a 39-20 advantage over Lewis. 

LAST TIME WE MET - Last season the squads split the games, with each team winning on their home court. The Knights won an 80-74 match-up at Knights Hall (Jan. 19, 2012) while the Flyers won 88-84 at Neil Carey Arena (Feb. 4, 2012). 

LEWIS RECEIVES VOTES IN DII POLL - The Flyers received three votes in the USA TODAY Sports Division II Basketball Coaches Poll released on Tuesday (Jan. 15), the first time since the 2006-07 season when the squad received votes and was ranked as high as No. 7.

NATIONAL RANKINGS - Lewis has jumped into the top-10 in three categories in the NCAA national statistical rankings. The Flyers are No. 2 in three-point field-goal percentage (40.8%), No. 6 in three-point field-goal defense (24.0) and No. 9 in field-goal percentage (45.3%). Lewis is also No. 16 in the country with a scoring average of 75.5 points-per-game. 

GRAYER ON FIRE - Junior guard Alexus Grayer has taken over No. 1 in the nation in three-point field-goal percentage (52.6%), averaging 2.3 made three-pointers per game.

NELLEN NATIONALLY RANKED - Sophomore guard Nikki Nellen is 17th nationally, averaging 5.2 assists per game. 

ALL-TIMER - Murdock has moved up to No. 8 in school history with 79 blocks. Audra Ross (1991-94) is sitting at No. 7 with 80 career blocks. 

NUMBERS VS. THE GLVC - The Flyers top the GLVC in three-point field-goal percentage (40.6%) and three-point field-goal defense (24.0%) and are second in scoring (75.5), field-goal percentage (45.1%), three-point field-goals made (86 total, 6.2 average), assists (224, 17.2 average), and defensive rebounds (398, 30.6) in the GLVC. 

INDIVIDUAL FLYERS STACKING UP IN THE GLVC - Nellen's 5.2 assists-per-game average tops the GLVC while Grayer is first in three-point field goal percentage at 52.6% (30-for-57).

UNDERCLASSMEN LOGGIN' ON - The Flyers are an underclassmen laden squad, as the six sophomores and freshmen are averaging over 8.8 minutes per game. 

FEW TIMES TO THE LINE - The Flyers are 2-0 this season when they head to the line less than 10 times in a game. 

BEST START - The Flyers have jumped out to their best start since the 1997-98 squad that went 12-1 at the same time of the season. The 1997-98 team finished 23-5 overall, 15-3 in the GLVC and made an NCAA Regional Tournament appearance.
