Romeoville, Ill. – The No. 18 Lewis University women's swimming picked up its first Great Lakes Valley Conference dual meet victory on Monday (Dec. 16) when the Flyers defeated William Jewell 116-85 at Lewis Pool.
The Flyers improve to 4-2 in dual meets and 1-1 in GLVC action.
"The team did a nice job tonight," Lewis head women's swimming coach
Roger Karns said. "We have some areas to still work on as some fatigue showed late in the meet."
"We talked about having good quality races and that the times will follow," Karns continued. "The coaches and I saw a lot of quality races tonight and I was pleased with their effort."
Leading the Flyers with two first-place finishes were sophomore
Montana Clasby (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) and freshman
Shannon Sullivan (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community).
Clasby picked up wins in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.64) and the 200-yard Individual Medley (2:13.36) while Sullivan held court on the 100-yard freestyle (53.81) and 200-yard freestyle (1:55.21).
Lewis freshman
Kara Treacy (Corpus Christi, Texas/Flour Bluff) picked up points for the squad with solid second-place performances in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:20.58) and 500-yard freestyle (5:21.82) races.
Flyer freshman
Brittany Kamper (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) edged classmate
Courtney Duy (Buckeye, Ariz./Millennium) out for first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.43. Duy reached the podium twice with second-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.73) and 200-yard freestyle (2:00.52).
Junior
Cindy Jezuit (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.94, while taking second in the 100-yard freestyle (55.90).
The Lewis quartet of senior
Caitlyn Scheirer (Washington, Ill./Washington Community), Clasby, Kamper and Jezuit also took first in the 200-yard medley relay, working together to post a time of 1:52.84.
The Flyers and Cardinals battle again on Tuesday (Dec. 17) at Lewis Pool with events starting at 11 AM.
