Romeoville, Ill. – The No. 7 Lewis University men's volleyball team swept the season series over Saint Francis (Pa.) with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-17) victory on Saturday (March 16) at Neil Carey Arena.
The Flyers improve to 15-6 on the season while the Red Flash fall to 8-12 on the year.
“We were a little ugly in the first two games but we were able to smooth it out in the third game,” Lewis head men's volleyball coach
Dan Friend said. “The guys played with a lot passion and heart, pushed through a couple of points and to win in three.”

Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) led the Flyers with 15 kills for his 16
th match with double-figure putaways this season. He also had five digs and three block assists in the match. Junior middle hitter
Yiwei Zhou (Nanjing, China/Nanjing No. 1) (Nanjing, China/Nanjing No. 1) added eight kills and five total blocks while freshman middle hitter
Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) tallied five kills and five block assists.
In the first set, even though the Red Flash held a brief lead early over the Flyers, Lewis was able to hold Saint Francis to hit .088 (11 kills, eight errors in 34 attempts). While Powell paced the Flyers with five kills, junior setter
BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and Walsh each tallied two block assists of Lewis' five team blocks in the set win.
Saint Francis began the second set with the lead at 7-2, capitalizing on three Lewis attack errors. A block by Walsh and redshirt senior
Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) kick-started a five point run for the Flyers to go up 14-11. Powell, Walsh and
Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) each tallied a kill during the run. The Red Flash tied the set at 20-all after a Lewis attack error but the Flyers scored the last five of seven points for the set win.
The Flyers hit a match-high .619, connecting on 15 kills in 21 attempts with only two errors in the third set. Powell posted seven of his 15 kills during the game while picking up two block assists. Sophomore opposite
Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) earned four kills in the set as Zhou picked up three block assists and two kills.
Lewis returns to Neil Carey Arena to host Princeton on Tuesday (March 19). First serve on Romeoville Night is set for 7 PM.
