No. 10 Lewis Men's Volleyball Clashes With No. 7 Ohio State Saturday

First serve is set for 7 PM ET at St. John Arena.

The No. 10 Flyers will take on the No. 7 Buckeyes at 7 PM ET.

Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 10 Lewis University men's volleyball team (11-5, 7-0 MIVA) will renew their Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association rivalry against No. 7 Ohio State (12-2, 5-0 MIVA) when the teams battle on Saturday (March 2) at St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

  The match will be re-aired on the BigTen Network on March 6, at 11 AM ET. The BTN channel can be seen on AT&T Uverse, Comcast, DirecTV and Dish Network.  

MIVA LEADERS - Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) leads the league with 220 total kills, averaging 3.61 kills per set. Redshirt junior setter BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) is second with 617 total assists to average 9.95 assists-per-set this season.

SERIES RECORDS - The Buckeyes lead the series with the Flyers 25-15 with Lewis taking two of three matches last season.  

IN THE NATIONAL RANKS - The Flyers have been in the AVCA National Rankings for 39-straight weeks, when the seventh poll of the 2013 season came out on Monday (Feb. 25).  

ON A ROLL - Lewis' current overall winning streak is at nine matches.

LAST TIME WE FACED OFF - In the teams' last meeting, Lewis defeated Ohio State in the 2012 MIVA Championship in five sets on April 28. The Flyers posted 21.5 blocks to win their first confernence title since 2004. Redshirt senior outside hitter Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) earned 25 kills while Matt Gallik (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) tallied 12 total blocks. 

PERFECT IN MIVA – It is the first time the Flyers have been 7-0 in MIVA play in the Dan Friend era.

LAST TIME OUT - Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) led the Flyers with 13 kills and four total blocks in Lewis 3-0 victory over IPFW on Saturday (Feb. 23). Freshman middle hitter Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) had a match-high seven block assists and 11 kills in the contest. 

NEXT UP - The Flyers return to Neil Carey Arena to host area rival Loyola on Wednesday (March 13) for a White Out match, at 7 PM.

SETTIN' STORM - BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) is sitting in 4th with 2,872 total assists in Lewis program history. Current assistant coach and former Lewis setter Mike Iandolo is third with 3,389 total assists (2008-10).

TO 1,000 KILLS & BEYOND - Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) captured his 1,000th kill against George Mason on Jan. 26. He has 1,080 total kills which puts him 8th all-time in the rally scoring era. Jeff Soler (2002-05) is 7th with 1,250 total kills.

WALSH RECOGNIZED BY MIVA - Freshman middle hitter Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) earned MIVA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday (Feb. 25) after he led the Flyers with 14 total blocks in Lewis' three-set victories over Ball State and IPFW this weekend. The middle hitter also hit .519 with 15 kills and one error on 27 attempts to average 2.5 kills per set.

MATCH VS. CARTHAGE CANCELLED - The Flyers' Tuesday (Feb. 26) match against Division III Carthage College was cancelled due to inclement weather. The match will not be made up.
