No. 9 Lewis Men’s Volleyball Heads To No. 15 Ball State On Thursday

The Flyers will wrap up the regular season on the road at Ball State, IPFW

Junior middle hitter Yiwei Zhou is No. 7 in the country with 1.26 blocks-per-set average.

Romeoville, Ill. – The No. 9 Lewis University men's volleyball team is on the verge of capturing the first outright Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association regular-season title in school history.
 
The Flyers (19-7, 10-2 MIVA), however, must go through No. 15 Ball State (18-5, 7-5 MIVA) on Thursday (April 11) with first serve at 7:30 PM at Worthen Arena in Muncie, Ind.
  
MIVA LEADERS - Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) leads the conference with 342 total kills, averaging 3.72 kills-per-set.
 
NCAA STATISTICAL LEADERS - The Flyers lead the country with 3.04 blocks-per-set average, according to the NCAA Statistical Rankings were released on Monday (April 8).
 
BIG BLOCKERS - Lewis middle hitters freshman Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) (1.54) and junior Yiwei Zhou (Nanjing, China/Nanjing No. 1) (1.44) are first and second against MIVA opponents in blocks-per-set. Zhou is No. 7 nationally with a 1.26 blocks-per-set season average.
 
SERIES RECORDS – Ball State holds a 25-20 lead over Lewis.
 
IN THE NATIONAL RANKS - Lewis has been in the AVCA National Rankings for 47-straight weeks, dating back to Jan. 2011, when the 14th poll of the 2013 season came out on Monday (April 8).
 
SETTIN' STORM - Redshirt junior BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) is sitting in fouth with 3,237 total assists in Lewis program history. Current assistant coach and former Lewis setter Mike Iandolo is third with 3,389 total assists (2008-10).
 
LAST TIME OUT - Lewis swept Ohio State on Senior Night (April 4), as the Flyers out-blocked Buckeyes 11-2. Sophomore opposite Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) led the Flyers with 14 kills, three block assists and two aces. Walsh put together a .600 hitting percentage and nine kills on 15 attempts and no errors and five block assists. Boldog tallied 34 assists, two kills, four digs, four block assists and a solo block.
 
LAST TIME WE FACED OFF - Lewis swept Ball State at Neil Carey Arena on Feb. 22nd, as redshirt senior outside hitter Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) paced the Flyers with 13 kills, seven digs and two aces. Walsh led the squad with seven block assists as the Flyers out-blocked the Cardinals 15-5. Boldog also had 30 assists and four block assists.
 
TO 1,000 KILLS & BEYOND - Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) captured his 1,000th kill against George Mason on Jan. 26. He heads into Thursday's match with 1,163 total kills which puts him 8th all-time. Jeff Soler (2002-05) is 7th with 1,250 total kills.
